Why SB3’s Veto Was the Right Call

Austin, Texas Jun 26, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - SB3, which sought to enact a sweeping ban on hemp-derived THC products, was vetoed: a decision that avoided immediate and irreparable harm to countless Texas small businesses and jobs.

Heres why that matters:

Texas has already authorized research into psychedelics for medical use. Banning hemp-derived THC products while embracing other emerging therapies is legally and scientifically inconsistent.

Alcohol, a substance with well-documented public health impacts, remains fully legal.

Thousands of Texans are employed by the hemp industry, many in small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

A blanket ban would have circumvented existing regulatory frameworks without offering meaningful public safety benefits.
